Digital patient communication
Fewer calls. More time for the consultation.
Reports, confirmations, follow-up questions and appointment requests run in writing instead of over the phone. Encrypted, in certified Swiss data centres, and your patients need neither an app nor an account.
- No app for patients
- FADP and GDPR compliant
- Data held in Switzerland
-
Is my report ready yet?
The report sits in the thread. Delivered and read are shown next to it.
-
Could you send me the confirmation again?
It has been in the same thread since the first time.
-
What do I need to bring before the procedure?
Written once, and there to read again next time.
-
I would like to move my appointment.
The request sits in the team inbox, not on a sticky note.

The problem
The morning belongs to the phone.
Most calls to a practice are not medical questions. They are pieces of information someone has already given once, and every one of them arrives at the wrong moment.
-
The call
It comes in while someone is at the desk and the lab is on the other line. It cannot be interrupted, and it cannot be postponed.
Interrupts everything else
-
The callback
Nobody reached, so a note goes on the pile. Later the practice calls back and reaches nobody either.
Two calls for one answer
-
The answer at the desk
Given in a second, and afterwards only one person knows about it. Whoever is on duty the next day starts from scratch.
Recorded nowhere
-
The letter
Print, fold, stamp, and then wait three days. For a single page the patient needed that same evening.
Days for one page of paper
None of this is a flaw in the process. It is the process, and it costs the same hours every single day.
Who benefits
One message, three sides relieved.
A written channel does not just change where things are recorded. It changes who gets interrupted, and when.
-
At the front desk
The practice assistant
Requests arrive when they arrive and are handled when there is time. Whatever has been answered once is there for everyone.
- Requests collect instead of interrupting
- The shared inbox shows who is responsible
- No more callback notes
-
In the consultation
The physician
A question about a report sits with the report, not on a note in a tray. It gets answered between two appointments, in two sentences.
- Questions sit with the right document
- Reports and imaging studies go out in the same thread
- What was said can be read back
-
At home
The patient
No waiting on hold, no opening hours. The link arrives by email, by SMS on request, and opens in the browser.
- No app and no account needed
- Reply whenever it suits
- Documents stay available
How it runs
One request, three stations.
From the first word to the archive, everything stays in one place. Nobody forwards anything, and nobody goes looking for it later.
-
It comes in
The practice writes first, or the patient gets in touch through a link they already have. A form on your website lands here too.
-
The team takes it on
The request sits in the shared inbox. Whoever is responsible picks it up; if someone is away, another person carries on.
-
The answer stays
The thread carries delivery receipts and timestamps and sits with the patient record. Including for the question six months later.
Whether patients can write to you unprompted is your decision. Some practices open the channel both ways, others only send.
Data protection
The route email does not offer.
Medical information is sensitive personal data. What happens to it has to be secure, and it has to be demonstrable afterwards.
-
Certified Swiss data centres
Stored encrypted, FADP and GDPR compliant, with no detour through other countries.
-
Encrypted in transit
Unlike an email, a message does not sit in the clear on the servers along the way.
-
Delivery you can prove
Delivered and read are shown on the thread, with timestamps.
-
Roles and permissions
Who sees which conversations and archives is decided by the practice, not by the device in someone's pocket.
Inside the practice system
Out of the system, and back into it.
A second programme alongside is no gain if someone has to retype afterwards. Unomed connects to your practice or hospital information system.
- 01
Master data comes from your PIS
No second patient directory that needs maintaining.
- 02
The message goes out
With a report, a letter or an imaging study attached, straight from the thread.
- 03
The answer goes back
Unomed Flows proposes filing it with the right record, and you confirm.
Unomed does not replace a practice information system. It is the channel alongside it, and Flows enters what belongs in the system once you approve it.
Whether your system is among them is listed in the directory. See supported systems

A module you add on.
Patient communication is not part of the free entry plan. It is a separate module on top of Unomed Connect, and what it costs for your practice is something we tell you in conversation.
- Can be added to any Connect plan
- Messenger and team inbox as the base, from Connect Basic
- Price on request
Frequently asked questions about digital patient communication
Is the communication data protection compliant?
Yes. Unomed meets the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection and the GDPR. Data is stored encrypted in certified Swiss data centres, and transmission is encrypted. Unlike email, nothing sits in the clear along the way.
Do patients have to install an app?
No. They receive a link by email, by SMS on request, and open the conversation in the browser, with no account and no download. Anyone who wants the app will find it for iOS and Android. The guest portal page describes that route in detail.
Can we send reports and imaging studies?
Yes. Documents attach to the message, DICOM studies travel in the same thread, and both sides open them in the viewer. An attachment that would be too large for an email is not too large here.
Can patients write to us unprompted?
That is your decision. The channel can be opened both ways or used for outgoing messages only. Practices handle this differently, and both are supported.
What changes for the practice team?
Requests arrive in writing and sit in the shared inbox instead of with one person. Whoever is responsible picks them up; if someone is away, another person carries on without anything having to be forwarded.
Can this be connected to our practice software?
Yes. Master data comes from your practice or hospital information system, and what belongs in the record is entered by Unomed Flows once you approve it. The integrations directory lists which systems are connected.
Does this replace our phone?
No, and it is not meant to. An emergency belongs on the phone. The channel takes over what calls today without being urgent: information, confirmations, questions about documents.
What does it cost?
Patient communication is a module added on top of Unomed Connect; it is not part of the free Basic plan. We name the price in conversation, because it depends on team size and scope. The messenger itself, the channel for your team and your referrers, starts at Connect Basic and is free for good.

Start with a single answer.
Show us one morning at your front desk, and we will show you which of those calls could run in writing. After that you know what the module costs for your practice.
