Guest portal
One link is enough. Both ways.
Reports, letters and whole imaging studies go out in one step. The other side opens them in the browser and has everything in front of them, with no account and no app. Whatever needs to come back takes the same route.
- No download
- No password
- Data in Switzerland
Your practice has opened a secure thread for you.
Good afternoon Ms Kern, your report is ready.
Thank you. Can I look at it right here?
Yes, right in the browser. Could you send us your insurance card?

The problem
The last metre out of the practice is the least protected one.
Inside the practice everything is protected, and then the report goes out by e-mail anyway, because otherwise the patient gets nothing. Every one of the usual routes has the same catch: it asks something of the other side, or it protects nothing.
-
A portal with an account
Register, set a password, confirm the address. Anyone who needs that twice a year has forgotten the password by the second time.
The practice resets passwords instead of treating patients.
-
Yet another app
A download for a conversation of three messages. On the phone of a 78-year-old patient it does not happen.
Whoever does not install it stays outside.
-
E-mail with an attachment
Fast, familiar and open. The report then sits in a mailbox and nobody knows where that mailbox is.
The wrong channel for patient data.
-
Counter, post and telephone
The report is printed, put in an envelope or collected at reception. The follow-up question still comes in by phone.
Two days of travel for one page of paper.
What is missing is a route that asks for nothing and still protects.
In three steps
Add the guest, the link goes out, done.
The guest portal is not a second program somebody has to set up. You add the guest; everything after that happens in the other side's browser.
-
You add the guest
A name and an e-mail address are enough. After that you write straight away, or you only release files.
-
The link goes out
By e-mail, by SMS on request. It opens in the browser on a phone or on a computer, with no account, no password and no download.
-
Everything stays with you
Whatever the guest writes or uploads sits in your organisation's inbox, not with one single person.
Referrers without their own Unomed take the same route: same link, same portal.
Three routes
Exchange, send, receive.
Not every contact needs a conversation. You decide case by case whether the guest should be able to answer, may only look, or may only hand something in. One portal, three cuts, and none of them asks for an app.
-
Both directions
Exchange
You add the guest and start writing straight away. Documents and imaging studies hang on the thread, and the guest answers in the same window: with text and with files.
- Messages in both directions
- Attach documents and imaging studies
- The guest sends files back
A guest only ever sees their own thread, never another conversation of the practice.
-
Outward only
Send
When something is only to go out: you release documents or an imaging study over a link. The guest opens it in the browser, looks at everything and downloads what they need.
- Release documents and imaging studies
- View in the browser, without a download
- Download when the guest needs it
The guest cannot answer here. If you expect a reply, add a guest instead.
-
Inward only
Receive
The same the other way round: you share an upload link over which the guest hands in documents. That needs no account either, and the guest sees nothing but the form.
- The guest uploads without an account
- Documents, images and imaging studies
- Everything lands in the organisation's inbox
Nothing can be shown on this route. What is to go out takes one of the other two.
The other side
Not only for patients.
A guest link reaches anyone who does not have Unomed and still needs to write to you, or trade documents with you, over a protected route.
-
01 / Outward
Patients
Report, follow-up question and paperwork run where everything else already runs: in the browser on their own phone.
- No account and no password
- View documents instead of downloading them
- Send photos and paperwork back
- Follow-up questions in the same thread
-
02 / Referrals
Referrers without Unomed
The referring practice gets the same link and sends report and images back without setting anything up.
- Receive a referral with its attachment
- Imaging studies in both directions
- A free account of their own later
- No fax and no courier
-
03 / Around the patient
Everyone else involved
A nursing home, home care or a relative holding a power of attorney: whoever acts on behalf of the patient is reachable over the same route.
- One link per guest
- The practice decides who receives it
- Send only, where a reply would add nothing
- Everything stays in the organisation's inbox
Security
Open to the other side, closed to everyone else.
A route without an account must not become a route without protection. Holding both together is what the guest portal is for.
-
The link leads to one place, not into an account
Whoever opens it sees the thread or the files it was sent for. Nothing else.
-
Certified Swiss data centres
Stored encrypted, compliant with the Swiss FADP and the GDPR, with no detour through other countries.
-
The practice decides how far the guest gets
Exchange, send only or receive only: you choose the cut, not the device in someone's pocket.
-
Delivery you can evidence
Delivered and read stand on the thread. Also for the question that comes six months later.
Working together
After that, nobody retypes anything.
The guest portal is part of Unomed Messenger. What arrives over it does not land in a folder that somebody empties by hand later on.
- 01
You send the link
Straight from the conversation, by e-mail or, on request, by SMS.
- 02
It reaches the whole team
A message, a document, an uploaded file: all of it sits in the organisation's inbox and not with one single person.
- 03
Flows makes the entry
Unomed reads it out, assigns it and writes it into the practice system. The last click stays with you.
And if you use Unomed Cloud PACS, you release imaging studies straight from the archive over the same link.
Pricing
Getting into the Connect line costs nothing.
Connect Basic is free forever, with no activation fee and no trial period. You start paying once your team grows or the shared storage runs out.

Common questions about the guest portal
Do my patients need an app?
No. They get a guest link by e-mail, by SMS on request, and open it in the browser, without an account and without a download. That holds for all three routes. Anyone who wants the app will find it for iOS and Android.
How does the link reach the patient?
You add the guest with a name and an e-mail address, and the link goes out by e-mail. On request Unomed sends it by SMS instead.
Can the guest answer?
That is decided by the route you choose. In a guest portal with a thread they answer with text and with files. With a plain release they only view and download; answering is not possible there.
How do I send someone a single document, without a conversation?
Over a release link. The guest opens it in the browser, looks at the document or the imaging study and downloads what they need. No reply channel comes with it.
And how do I get paperwork in from outside?
Over an upload link. The guest uploads documents, images or whole imaging studies without an account. Everything lands in the inbox of the organisation that shared the link, not with the person who sent it.
What if the phone is old, or someone only has a computer?
The link opens in any common browser, on a phone as well as on a computer. Nothing is installed.
Can referrers without Unomed reply as well?
Yes, over the same guest link. Anyone working with you regularly usually opens an account afterwards. The free Basic package is enough for that.
Do imaging studies travel over the guest link too?
Yes. A DICOM study takes the same route as a PDF, on all three cuts, and can be opened in the viewer instead of being downloaded.
Does the answer land with one single person?
No. It sits in the organisation's inbox. Whoever is responsible takes the conversation over and carries it on, even when somebody is away.
Where is the data stored?
In certified Swiss data centres, encrypted and compliant with the Swiss FADP and the GDPR.
What does the guest portal cost?
It belongs to the Connect line, and that line starts at Connect Basic, which is free forever. Which tier your practice needs for reaching the outside world is something we settle before you start.
Does this replace our practice management system?
No. Unomed does not replace a practice management system. The guest portal is the route outward, and what belongs in the practice system is transferred by Unomed Flows after your confirmation.
